The Gulf Coast Regional Lifeguard Competition held in Galveston is one of eight regional contests preceding the United States Lifesaving Association National Championships held each August. All current USLA members are encouraged to participate.
Regional competitors compete in contests of skill and stamina during this competition. These contests include: surf, run-swim-run, rescue board, 2k run, 4x100m relay, beach flags, rescue race and Ironman.
Top qualifiers are considered for "Team Texas", the National Competition team of the Galveston Lifesaving Association.
The Gulf Coast competition anticipates participation from Texas lifeguards representing areas of Texas including Galveston, Houston, Corpus Christi and Mustang Island.

International Lifesaving Federation World Competition
The World Lifeguard Competition is held every two years and hosts the best athletes from the national lifeguarding competitions. This event is often called the “Olympic” Games for non-Olympic Sports.
Rescue 2008 will be held in Germany July 7th – August 2nd.
RESCUE 2006 The World Lifeguard Competition is held every two years and 2006 competition was held in Geelong, Australia February10-26, 2006.
The 2004 competition, Rescue 2004, was held in Viaraggio, Italy. The Galveston Lifesaving Association sent a team of five to compete. Peter Davis, Rob Kite, Dave Paris, Jim Dugan, Gene Gore, and Kym Tyson represented Team Texas in the Masters events. Congratulations to this team on for placing in numerous International events!
