Water Safety School Talks
Each year, The Galveston Island Beach Patrol strives to reach as many school aged children and youth in Galveston and the surrounding area as possible. Our message is simple:
- Avoid Rip Currents - Stay away from rock jetties and piers
- Swim Near A Lifeguard
- Never Swim Alone
- Do Not Dive in Headfirst
- Obey Warning Signs and Flags
- Take Sun and Heat Precautions
Presentations vary in length and content depending on the age of the audience. From a 20 minute pre school presentation to an hour presentation for middle school, our supervisors present informative, interactive, and important water safety programs. Teachers are encouraged to access color pages for younger students and test questions for older students from the Public Education section of our website.
This special program of the Beach Patrol is funded partially through fund raising and donations from Galveston Lifesaving Association, the professional organization of The Galveston Island Beach Patrol, and partially through the Beach Patrol's annual budget. Over 9,000 students were reached in the spring of 2005.
To schedule a water safety talk for your organization please contact Education Supervisor Penny Shull at at pshull@galvestonparkboard.org.
